With Towns players battling hard against higher League opposition the visitors clinched their victory with a superb chipped goal 15 minutes from time. Towns players will have learned a lot from their Cup run and now realise the standard of opposition they will meet if they achieve their aim of promotion this season. West Midlands Regional Womens Football League Division One North Wyrley 0 Stafford Town Ladies 1 Stafford Town started the first half the much better team with some great battling in the centre of midfield by Julia Kendrick and Jo Lessimore. Andi Follett came close twenty minutes into the game after some great teamwork with her effort just dipping over the crossbar. Wyrley barely had any chances in the first half with Vicky Brayne and Kerry Barnes-Davies tidying up any long balls Wyrley tried to play. Half an hour into the game, Tash Hughes hit the crossbar after collecting the ball from a long kick from goalkeeper Jenna McKenna. A substitution was made when Jordan Timmins-Ray was injured and replaced by Charlotte Vernon. The second half started much like the first half with Stafford looking the more likely to score a goal. Town kept the pressure for the first ten minutes in the attacking half but failed to get any clear chances on goal. But Wyrley got back into the game and had one attempt brilliantly headed off the goal line from Claire Forsythe. Another substitute saw Denise Hanlon being replaced by Tarnya Grigg. Andi Follett was replaced by Kathy Munden with fifteen minutes to go which turned out to be a great tactical decision, with both teams attempting to push to break the deadlock. It looked like it could end goalless until five minutes from time with some great work from Georgia Key and Tash Hughes with Hughes effort on goal falling to Kathy Munden who slotted in the match winner. This was 2nd placed Wyrleys 1st defeat of the season. Player of the match was Vicky Brayne. The F.A. Womens Cup Sponsored By E.ON Stafford Town Ladies 6 Redditch United Ladies 2 Stafford Town convincingly won through the 1st Qualifying Round of the 36th Womens FA Cup on Sunday with a 6-2 win over Redditch United. Stafford found themselves 1-0 up in the first minute with great pressure from Jordan Timmins-Ray resulting in her slotting the ball past the goalkeeper for her first of the game. Town continued to pressure Redditch and Georgia Key scored the second after some great play down the right side of the pitch. Stafford were unlucky not to have put a few more chances away before Redditch pulled one goal back from a free kick that was slotted home from two yards. Half way through the first half Georgia Key then scored her second of the game to make the half time score 3-1. Timmins-Ray started off the second half in similar form to that of the first with her closing down the ball, turning two players and shooting a fine shot into the top right hand corner from the outside of the box. The back four struggled to cope with the movement of Key and Timmins-Ray who caused a nuisance all afternoon, and Keys third of the game came from some good passing from Stafford Town. Town made some changes with Key, Hanlon and Kendrick making way for Follett, Maddocks and Vernon respectively. Redditch kept trying to push Town and their added pressure resulted in them pulling a second goal back after Town failed to clear the ball in their own area. Timmins-Ray then scored her third after Munden, Key and Timmins-Ray linked up well from a Forsythe throw. Timmins-Ray completed her player of the match performance like she began and with five minutes to go was awarded a penalty with Hughes stepping up to take it and was unfortunate to see her shot hit the crossbar. Congratulations must go to all of the Stafford Town team who dominated the game from the start.
