Town hit back with their now trade mark counterattacking with Matt Simpson latching onto a loose ball to fire home. Rangers continued to attack and scored a third goal immediately before half -time via some good approach play. After the half time break Town continued to battle and restrict Rangers opportunities. Town were now mounting the majority of attacks and their top scorer Jeremy Jem White scored twice to even the score and give and end result which fairly reflected the game. Adam Campbells able performance in defence earned him the Man of the Match award for Stafford Town. Newcastle Rangers Under 12s 3 Stafford Town Under 12s 2 The second fixture of Stafford Town under 12s campaign was a match against Newcastle Rangers under 12s. Newcastle started the more brightly in a match where the conditions were ideal for good football. The pace of striker Jeremy White means that Stafford are dangerous when going forward. One of their early attacks produced the first goal. Jeremy took the ball from the halfway line raced past the Newcastle back line and lifted the ball over the outrushing keeper for the goal of the game. Newcastles response was swift as their midfield and strikers combined well to create an overlap in the Stafford box and to finish of a fine flowing move. Hesitancy amongst the Stafford defence was seized upon by Newcastle who managed to score a second goal off the post just before halftime. Stafford Town reorganised their midfield for the second half and played with more confidence. Newcastle were dominant in the air and won most headers. Stafford created a number of missed chances before Jeremy sprinted through and finished well for his second and to level the score. Both teams went for the win but it was Newcastle with their aerial dominance that scored the winner from a well taken free kick. Man of the match was Tom Dixon with Luke Corfield playing well in central defence. Stafford Town U12s 0 Penkridge Juniors U12s 9 Stafford Town under 12s commenced their opening match of the 2008-09 Season with a fixture against Penkridge Juniors on the 14th September 2008. Stafford Town adapted quickly to playing at a more senior level and also were fielding a number of players making their debut. Penkridge Juniors started the more brightly putting Stafford under a lot of pressure from the start. Town held strong with some very able defending from a newly formed back line. Adam Campbell making his debut and Man of the Match Josh Gamble played particularly well in defence. Town did have some early chances with some excellent counter-attacking in this early period but were unable to finish these chances. Both teams battled hard but fairly much to the pleasure of those watching. There was some fine goalkeeping by James Blakemore which meant that it took the stronger Penkridge side some 20 minutes to finally break Stafford Town down and by the break they were leading 4-0. The second half was much the same as the first with Stafford producing some efforts on goal but being out-hustled by the Penkridge defence. The final score was Stafford Town 0 Penkridge Juniors 9. The Penkridge boys, coaches and supporters should be pleased by their sporting and competent performance. The effort by the Stafford boys was commendable and much was gained from this first game of the season.
