Chasetown Ladies 8 Stafford Town Girls U16 1
Stafford Town Girls produced a strong team performance against the superior, tactically organised, top of the league Chasetown Ladies. There was some excellent play up the wing by Ellie Barnett and Lydia Hooley. Chloe Staite had a sound performance in goals, pulling off a string of excellent saves, but still Chasetown were 3-0 in the lead. However shortly before half time Stafford Town’s Molly Rudoni shocked the home team by scoring, the first goal to be conceded by Chasetown in the league this season.
In the second half Stafford played with determination and increased confidence but were unable to capitalise on their first half goal. This was not helped by a string of injuries which left players on the side line and Stafford often down to 10 players. Despite perhaps Stafford’s best performance of the season the final score was 8-1 to Chasetown. A good solid performance by Captain Charley Turton earned her player of the match for Stafford.

Stafford Town Girls started brightly with the best football they have played all season, with a couple of excellent chances early on and should have capitalised on a corner and a cross delivered by Jade Wood-Weekes and Lizzie Edgecombe respectively. A good midfield and an excellent performance in goal by Elle Barnett made it a very close first half and the girls were disappointed to finish it 2-0 down.
In the second half Stafford conceded 3 goals, the first an unfortunate own goal and the second from a very unlucky bounce. A contentious decision by the referee saw a late goal by birthday girl Molly Rudoni disallowed for obstructing the goalkeeper.
Chasetown, top of the league, were contained to a 5-0 score line, but in truth this did not reflect the closeness of the match.
Player of the match for Stafford was Jeannine Foster.
Stafford Town U16 Girls 0 Norton Canes Ladies FC 1
Stafford Town Girls returned to their home ground at Wildwood Park today for the clash against Norton Canes.
The first half saw both teams evenly matched with neither team able to take their chances in front of goal. Stafford goalkeeper Hannah Parry made some great saves and at the other end Lizzie Edgecombe just missed a chance to put Stafford into the lead after getting onto the end of a long though ball from Jade Wood-Weekes.
The second half saw a strong spell of pressure from Stafford Town with several chances failing to hit the back of the net. It was Norton Canes who broke the deadlock scoring the opening goal of the game with a shot to the bottom left corner of the net. Stafford continued to press forward pressurising the Norton Canes defence into conceding several corners. Chances to equalise fell to Molly Rudoni and Lydia Hooley who were both unlucky not to score.
A closely contested game ended 1-0 to Norton Canes.
Stafford's player of the match was named as Katy Fudger.
Cheadle Town 1 Stafford Town Girls U16 1
Stafford Town Girls started the game with enthusiasm under the new management team of Tash Hughes and Jules Kendrick. Stafford applied early pressure and were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty when Molly Rudoni was held back as she was braking through. Cheadle went into the lead as the Stafford defence were unable to clear the line. Stafford drew level from the penalty spot, excellently taken by Jade Wood-Weekes, awarded for a Cheadle hand- ball. Tension mounted between the two teams until Cheadle had a player sent off for violent conduct.
Stafford continued in the second half to apply the pressure but despite numerous goal attempts and excellent play on the wing by Eleanor Barnett, were unable to score the winner. Cheadle with 10 players could have also clinched the match but some good clearances by Jodie Haywood, Katie Fudger and captain, Charley Turton kept the full time score at 1-1. Jenna Hands won a well deserved player of the match for Stafford Girls.
Pelsall Saints Ladies 4 Stafford Town Girls U16’s 4
Sporting Stafford Town Girls agreed to play only 9 a side as Pelsall Saints were unable to raise the full 11 girl team. Stafford had a strong start but went a goal down early on in the game against the run of play. It was a yo-yo game where Stafford should have taken advantage of numerous opportunities. Lizzie Edgecombe opened the scoring for Stafford, soon followed by a second to draw level with Pelsall. The away side took the lead for a 3-2 advantage just before half time from a Pelsall OG resulting from goal mouth pressure from Stafford’s Molly Rudoni.
The second half continued in a similar pattern but despite Lizzie Edgecombe making her first hat- trick of the season, and player of the match for Stafford Town, Stafford were unable to clinch the vital winner and had to settle for the 4-4 draw. Stafford showed a lot of promise and with a lot of new additions to the squad should ,with improved organisation and increasing confidence, be able to build on today’s performance.
Stafford Town Girls U16s 2 Five Towns 3
Stafford Town Girls FC suffered their second home defeat of the new season losing 2–3 against Five Towns FC. This closely contested game saw Stafford dominating their presence in the opposition’s half resulting in several goal mouth scrambles which had the supporters at the edge of their seats. One such scramble saw Lizzie Edgecombe cross the ball to Jade Wood- Weekes who narrowly missed the chance of an early goal by hitting the top of the cross bar. Five Towns gave a good run for their money managing to score two goals before half time.
The second half started at a fast pace with Stafford determined to make a comeback. All the girls played well in their respective defence and attack positions. Five Town’s disallowed goal came early into the second half when one of their players kicked the ball from Stafford’s goal keeper, Chloe Staite’s hand. They then went onto score their third goal putting pressure on Stafford to come up to the mark. Stafford gave their all and took back control of the ball scoring twice in close succession. The first goal was skilfully shot into the net by Molly Rudoni. Lydia Hooley used fine ball control to bring Stafford back into play with their second goal. The game could have been drawn when Jade Wood-Weekes passed the ball to Lydia Hooley. She shot the ball which ricocheted from one goal post to the other just failing to cross the line for a third goal. In the last minutes of the game Stafford tried to make the scores even, however time came to a close with the Five Towns girls claiming a 2 – 3 win. This was a game well played by both teams. It demonstrated the FA’s “Respect programme “in every aspect of the game.
Man of the match was deservedly awarded to Lydia Hooley.
